Our Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is everyone’s business. Whether it is through minimizing operational impact on the environment, aligning with ever-evolving regulations, or supporting a more sustainable world, the equipment manufacturing industry’s future depends on the responsible use of natural resources.
AEM has been committed to addressing societal and safety issues on behalf of the industry for 130 years. And together with our member companies, we recognize that social and environmental challenges are complex and require transformation at all levels of an organization. Our industry is committed to supporting a sustainable world by serving as a catalyst for conversation and innovation in the equipment manufacturing industry. By transcending traditional norms, we are working to spark ideas for setting sustainability priorities for our industry and providing a framework that supports best practices for a more viable world.
Sustainability Council
AEM’s Sustainability Council was established in 2019 and has grown each year as our industry works to move forward faster to implement sustainable best practices across the industry. The Sustainability Council meets several times a year to share industry best practices and address topics of common concern. In 2024, the council is led by Chair Kirsten Mauritzson of Caterpillar, and it includes a roster of sustainability leaders from AEM member companies represented by the agriculture and construction sectors, including OEMs, component manufacturers and service providers.
Working together, members of the council have identified long-term goals that lay the foundation for making progress in our industry:
Ensure Supply Chain Success
- Enhance and promote the use of AEM’s Sustainability Toolkit among member company suppliers
- Develop opportunities for deeper education and faster adoption throughout the supply chain
- Align OEM and supply chain sustainability reporting requests and expectations
Build Industry Alignment
- Provide ag and construction sector reporting guidance for OEMs
- Increase education, adoption, and action around sustainability
- Integrate sustainability into efforts of other AEM Councils and Committees
Advancing Public Perceptions
- Establish industry benchmarks
- Enable the equipment manufacturing industry to tell its story of sustainability growth and development
Sustainable Development Goals
As an association that speaks with one voice on behalf of equipment manufacturing, we work to bring our industry together to align with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals on behalf of our industry. View Goals
Sustainability Toolkit
In 2022, AEM introduced to the industry a Sustainability Toolkit that provides assessments and resources to help manufacturers and their supply chains minimize operational impact on the environment. The purpose of the toolkit is to advance the equipment manufacturing industry’s efforts to align with evolving regulation and support a more sustainable world.
