Susanne Cobey
CEO / Eagle Crusher / 1951 / Inducted 2023
Susanne Cobey is CEO for Eagle Crusher Company, Inc., a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty crushing and screening equipment for the recycled concrete, asphalt, and aggregate industries. Susanne joined Eagle Crusher in 1970 as Parts Manager, and quickly advanced to become Equipment Sales Manager; VP, Sales and Finance, and ultimately, President/CEO in 1990.
Industry changes impacting Eagle Crusher in the1980s led Susanne to start the commercial recycling industry in the U.S., building the first U.S. commercial recycling plant, Eagle Crusher’s Jumbo 1400, in 1984, creating a whole new product line for Eagle Crusher, and a whole new U.S. industry.
The plant took crushing to a new level with its abilities to crush high volumes of aggregate, concrete, and RAP; to create precise, cubical spec product; and to save innumerable tons of concrete and asphalt from landfills, for recycling. A whole line of other portable horizontal impactor plants to come, created a boon for the aggregate crushing market, the recycled concrete, and the RAP markets.
A female pioneer in a male-dominated industry, Susanne has dedicated herself to helping other women in the industry succeed, presenting at Kaleidoscope Women’s Conference on the battle of breaking tradition, addressing the topic of women in the industry in numerous videos and articles, and serving as a role model for both young women and men in her many commencement addresses.
Susanne is a recipient of the Excellence in Enterprise award by the Ohio Department of Development; the recipient of the Ontario Global Traders Provincial Partnership award for excellence in exporting; profiled in Ohio Magazine; and the subject of “Profiles in Success” in Columbus CEO magazine. She has also spoken at the INC Growing the Company Conference on development of strategic growth plans; and as a panel participant in the Forbes President’s Forum for Emerging & Middle-Market Companies.
