Richard D. Messinger
Chairman / Power Curbers Inc. / 1915 - 1998 / Inducted 1996
As president and chairman of Power Curbers, Richard D. Messinger led the company through its formative years. Messinger was instrumental in developing the first automated curb and gutter machine in the world. He also developed the first four-point suspension curb and gutter machine. As times changed, he challenged his company to develop new technology.
During his tenure Messinger successfully expanded Power Curbers' business from a regional market to all 50 states. He also had the vision to recognize the importance of the international market to his company's growth and diversification strategy. In 1983, Messinger's accomplishments in expanding international business earned him the U.S. Department of Commerce's E Award for Excellence in Exports, which was presented by President Reagan. Besides developing Power Curbers to a worldwide leader in the extruding and slipform equipment market, Messinger has also devoted himself to the construction industry - holding leadership positions for CIMA (now AEM), ARTBA and the International Road Federation.
